Have U Seen Me? is aimed at preteen and teen girls. I am currently working on a sequel.
The one negative review was written by someone going by the name of 'Sami' at WK. Having zero integrity, he or she reviewed the book without reading it. Let me assure you that I am versatile enough to write an entire young adult novel without mentioning religion in any guise. So if you've got girls of the proper age group, support Rhoda! Buy her book! http://www.amazon.com/Have-Seen-Me-Linda-S...TF8&s=books |

It is clear that the review was written with an agenda in mind and the reference to WK made me laugh. I wouldnt worry too much. I've been meaning to pick your brain on this actually. What got you interested in writing? How did you go about it? What did you have to go through to become a published author? And, can you make a career at authoring books? |

Aha! A chance to talk about myself.
I was always interested in writing. As a teenager, I won the citywide prizes and stuff. But I am of the generation in which women were supposed to have a women's type of career to help out the man of the house, so I became an English teacher. By the time I had written a gazillion term papers and spent 30 years rewriting inept textbooks and creating worksheets, I was all written out. But then RETIREMENT. The urge crept back. At some endless and tedious teacher's meeting I had started a short story --a confession type story. I finished it, sent it off to True Story Magazine, and they bought it! So I wrote two more, sent them off, and they bought them! Did I think I was big stuff? So I branched out, wrote a humorous article about a hobby I pursue. It was accepted by a magazine that never would print it, so I gave it to another magazine that printed it but forgot to pay me. I'd written a 'romance' novel, and boy did it stink! Still does. However, I had proved to myself I could write a book. So I wrote the one currently listed at amazon and shopped it to all the publishers I could find, and a few agents. Some mild interest. Then I gave up all my standards and went with Publish America, a highly controversial company that will publish just about anything. They don't charge the writer but make their money by hideously overcharging the customer. Then they pay some 'royalties' with which the writer can celebrate at McDonald's. The next book will be a POD book. POD stands for Print On Demand. This is something fairly new. The technology exists to allow a printer to print, say, 10 books, if wanted. There is no need to print several hundred and store them in a warehouse. The author pays for the printing and perhaps sets up a web site to sell the book. I strongly believe that within your lifetimes (not mine, I'm too old) most books will be e-printed and read on a device that collects and stores them. This is a dream for those of us who love to read but are tired of the bi-annual trips to IKEA for yet another Billy bookcase. Anyway, I'm finishing a book right now, and rather than shop it to publishers, I'm going to POD it. This would all go much faster if I weren't so lazy. And if I didn't spend so much time on blogs. |

to Rachel, but of course.
To Jim, I don't know. What kind of book are you writing? Christian vampires vs. Christine Hitler clones? Who are the bad guys? Who are the good guys? |

No, no Christian vampires or Christian Hitlers clones! Extremely in short, its a story about a boy with an uncertain childhood struggling to find his way, his place, in the world as he grow older and experiences life's difficulties. More exerpiences, good and bad, and difficulties than most people experience in a lifetime. |

Rhoda, I enjoy reading True Story magazine and would like to read your story. In which issue is it published?

This was some time ago, but here's what I have
Sept '04 "Another School Year--Another Chance to Ruin Mom's Life!" p.22 (TS makes up these titles, by the way, not me) November '03 "My Sister's Adopting My Baby" p.6 May '03 "My Son Was Bullied At School" p.12 This was the first one. One of them got reprinted in another magazine, but I'm not sure which one. Let me know if you can locate them. I should write a couple more but I keep working on these books. |

Ceshune, wait a bit. The mag seems to have changed publishers, and I have lost my contacts there. I'll keep working on this.

I still receive notices of stock transfers in my name based on the royalties from a book I wrote...royalties I did not receive. Serves me right, I guess, for trying to publsh in another country when I don't fully know the copyright laws there.
