Certain foods can substitute offending foods responsible for food allergies and intolerance in individuals, broadening their diet choices.
Food allergies, which occur when the immune system reacts poorly to certain foods, are becoming a health concern in many parts of the world.
Individuals suffering from this condition experience hives, swelling and may even have difficulty breathing after eating offending foods including milk, eggs, peanuts and soy.
These individuals therefore have difficulty in deciding what to eat in order not to experience such distressing presentations.
According to Christine Doherty, a naturopathic doctor specializing in food allergies and celiac disease, those with food allergy can simply switch to other alternatives and tackle their allergy.
The following is a list of such foods as presented on chicagotribune.com:
1- Apples and applesauce are a rich source of vitamin C, pectin (a soluble fiber), potassium, phytochemicals and quercetin. The latter is an effective compound in reducing allergy symptoms.
2-Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and cabbage help the body remove toxins through the liver and kidneys, a process which is difficult in those suffering from allergy.
3-Quinoa, high in protein, essential amino acids, dietary fiber, phosphorus, magnesium and iron, is considered as the least allergenic of grains.
4-Lentils, loaded with iron, protein and folic acid, have six times more fiber than a serving of Metamucil.
5-Sweet potato, rich in carotenoids, vitamin C, potassium, vitamin B6, carbohydrates and fiber, can reduce inflammation.
6-Avocado, a rich source of vitamin B6, magnesium and healthful fat, is a natural anti-inflammatory agent. It is also a blood sugar stabilizer and liver cleanser which lowers the risk of allergic inflammation.
7- Dulse, a red salty seaweed high in iodine, calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron and other vitamins and minerals, can help lower allergic presentations.
8- Rice milk, low in protein, is an alternative for those avoiding cow milk due to lactose intolerance.
9- Salba seeds, light-colored chia seeds, are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, dietary fiber, antioxidants, magnesium, folate, calcium, iron, and vitamins A and C.
10- Figs, rich in potassium and calcium, not only act as an instant sugar fixative but also help relieve constipation.

Have those with food allergies increased over the years? I wonder if these allergies are caused by environmental changes or if they are genetic or what causes them. Or are doctors becoming better at diagnosing allergies?
