So, now that we have a 'black' President all of the Black spokespeople and media pundits are having a frenzy. On Larry King they had a number of them to include Dr Martin Luther Kings youngest son.

How many of you think that Obama will finally give each black man his 40 acres and a mule (reparations for slavery mandated by law)?

Do you think Obama will promote the black agenda that Jesse Jackon and Al Sharpton are salivating over?

The black men who were owed 40 acres and a mule are all gone now. To say that every black man TODAY is owed this, is nuts. That original 40 acres would have had to be passed down, split up between children, etc. No one today were slaves, therefore no one is owed this.

Plus, we should be passed all that.

I agree. This is the point I was making yesterday when I said race really did matter in the election. The focus is on this 'historical' event (as it should be I guess, not saying bad/good, just saying "it is"). The election of the first black President demands discussion on race (specifically the relationship between the white/black races in America) be part of the process we now go through, it would be foolish to think that this would not be part of his presidency.

I agree.

Do you all think that he will push a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton agenda with regards to black community domestic issues? Why?

I think if he does, We the People will demand an impeachment. I believe he is better than that.

In the past Obama has always spoken out against reparations. I think you'll see Obama move toward the center rather than embracing Sharpton/Jackson racist ideology.

Great. So maybe we can read an article about him that doesn't include the words "First African-American Man Elected to be President of the United States. (FAMEPUS)

I think he won't, because to this point he never has embraced that type of politics. I don't think he even thinks of himself in that same light.

It sort of reminds me of Tiger Woods in a way. A lot of people (like Sharpton) criticized him for not using his considerable fame and access to champion the "black cause". But really Tiger just doesn't see himself as a champion of the "black cause."

And I'm not sure Obama does either.

That is an interesting analogy. I tend to agree. We will see I guess. Im think that Obama's 'black' experience in America is not completely identical to that of descendants of former slaves and thus he will not have an underlying need to push extreme black issues. In fact, i dont think he will make his Presidency about race relations issues to begin with.

Perhaps. the global trend is towards these ideals. Wealthier nations tend to be the last to give in, but America is no longer a wealthy nation in reality.

Despite crappy parents, Obama was brought up under very privileged circumstances and attend a series of elite and expensive schools.

Exactly why he will not have the same issues that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton might wish that he would champion.

There might be an Obama expose by Rev. Wright any day now.

Obama seems a cut above the other black leaders, however, there are some deceptions yet to be clarified.

I agree.

I heard Al Sharpton talking about civil rights and stuff 4 years ago when he was a presidential candidate in 04, it really confused me at that time. I don't think Obama is going in that direction and I think there will be a lot of frustration from black people because of it.
